HONORARY MEMBER RUNNING FOR STATE REPRESENATIVE

The USS New York " Never Forget "

Even though 9-11 isnt that far away this had to be posted. This was sent to us via email. Please read and look below.

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel
from the World Trade Center .

It is the fifth in a new class of warship -
designed for missions that includespecial operations against terrorists.

It will carry a crew of 360 sailors
and 700 combat-ready Marines to
be delivered ashore by
helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted
down in a foundry in  Amite , LA to
cast the ship's bow section. When
it was poured into the molds on
Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough
steelworkers treated it with
total reverence,' recalled
Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing,
who was there. 'It was a spiritual
moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager,
said that when the trade center steel
first arrived, he touched it with his
hand and the 'hair on my neck
stood up.' 'It had a big meaning
to it for all of us,' he said.
'They knocked us down.
They can't keep us down.
We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'

Fire 2 / EMS 3 / Marine 1 - Today the 12 HOUSE continued to stay steady as it has been the last few days within town and out with Engine 07 being OOS. Crews ran 6 calls total while also doing a Boot Day to raise money. The day started Just after the stroke of midnight and crews were just getting home from the call in Ridley Park. The tones went out for the AFA at 1200 E. 9th St. Engine 12 hit the street within no time and arrived on scene with a 4 story MOD with nothing evident. While crews were investigating Pipeline 12 and Ladder 48 were enroute ,  crews from Engine 12 found unattended cooking with no fire and a light smoke condition from apartment 103. Chief 12 held the assignment to Engine 12 for ventilation. The next alarm came in at 0913hrs for the AFA in Tinicum at 511 Lagrange, Pipeline and Engine 12 was recalled while enroute. Just after getting back into town the tones went out for the Squad to handle a medical call at the Shop Rite. Crews checked the area and the called was unfounded. Within about 30min after getting back into the Boot Day the Squad was sent back to Shop Rite, this time a patient was located and transported to a local hospital with a head injury. The crews finally cleared up there Boot Day just after 1500hrs. But just over an hour later the tones went out for the Vessel in distress within the Chester City limits bringing S81, CCMC medics, Chester 11 , Marine 48 and Marine 12 to the scene. Marine 12B and Marine 48 hit the water within minutes. Marine 12B found a vessel just south of the Commidore with 4 POV and no injuries. The vessel was towed to the Flower Street ramp and units were returned. The Squad handled one more medical on Chester Pike before the night was over. After running 6 calls today the crews were very happy after they raised just under $1,000.00 at the Boot Day. We would like to thank everyone who donated money to the Eddystone Fire Company.

Friday August 15th 2008

Fire 2 / EMS 1 - A few runs were handled late in the day today by the 12 HOUSE. The first run was for the AFA at 138 Wyandotte in Tinicum. The assignment was held to Ladder 48 for the investigation. A short time after the Squad handled a medical call in the 1200 block of Eddystone Ave. Just before the strike of midnight Pipeline 12 headed to Ridley Park at the Parker Condos for the AFA. The assignment was held to Pipeline 12 / Ladder 48 for the investigation per Chief 07. Nothing was found and it was determined to be a accidental trip.

Monday August 11th 2008

Engine Co. 3 / EMS 3 - Today was another steady/busy day for the 12 HOUSE. The day started just after the sun was coming up when the AFA came in for the Tinicum Twp. Police Station. That assignment was recalled shortly after dispatch by 48-9. The next assignment came in at 1253hrs for the Investigation at 9th and Eddystone Ave, which was reported to be a chemical odor in the area. Engine 12 under command of Captain Thornton arrived and found nothing but a tar smell from roofers in the area and recalled the assignment. About 30min after getting back from that call a Medical call came in for the Wal-Mart on Chester Pike which 12-7 transported on to a local hospital. While cleaning up from that call Fire Board advised 12-7 there was another Medical at the Wal-Mart which that resulted in a transport to another local hospital. After the back to back medicals crews got some time to do work around the station before the Building Assignment ( 48, 07, 08 and 12 )  was put out for 308 E. 2nd St. on " The Island ". The Pipeline staffed with 6 was recalled while enroute, Ladder 48 had a small fire that was placed out quickly. A few hours after getting back in station , and this is not a mistake the Ambulance went back for the 3rd time today to the Wal-Mart for another Medical which resulted in another transport.

Since it was determined there was a hole burnt in the bottom of the trailer the Navy Nozzle from the Engine was placed on the 1-1'2" line put in service to knock the fire. As this was going on it was instant " Chocolate Milk " or close to every where on the ground. Month of Jan. 2008 Summary

Slow times leave time for changes - With this month being beyond slow on the fire side not coming oven close to double digits it has left time for things to be done around the station and other odds and end. The members and new line officers have been busy with all this free time cleaning out the station of none needed items as well as repainting the rooms and offices around the station as well as re-certification training for the new year and getting new members familiar with the day to day operations around the station. The officers have been very busy meeting up to discuss plans for the year of 2008 as well as other meetings with local companies to re-new old relationships as well as starting some new ones. The ambulance has been staying steady doing an average of 1 call per day so far this month, which is good for the small first due area we cover which is about a mile square of 75% industrial and 25% residential. We would like to thank all the members who have been taking the time to help out around the station with all the odds and ends during this slow time.

Change at the Top Position

Changing of the guard – The year of 2008 has brought on a change that hasn’t been seen for some time at the Eddystone Fire Co. The elections were held this year as they are every year and at the end there was a new chief to be announced, with this change ends a long era for Robert Gliem Jr. as Fire Chief of the Eddystone Fire Co. Joining back in the mid to late 60s it didn’t take long for Bob to get into the top position at the Fire Company becoming chief in 1969. He held that position from that day forward till just this year when he had to step down coming up short in the election. We here at Eddystone Fire Co. would like to thank Bob for his many years of service as Chief , there aren’t enough words to express how much we appreciate what he has done for us and his dedication to the company. Bob is still a member of the company and also will be serving the Borough of Eddystone as the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator. Once again thank you and hope to see you around the station.

If you need to contact the Fire Marshal call 610-874-1100 or go to the Borough Webpage.
